The Laughingstock Company was created in 1987 at the request Stephen R. Mercer of The General Electric Company, whose vision it was to install a company of improvisational and theatrical artists into the GE Management Training Facility located in Crotonville, New York.

Mr. Mercer’s search for theatrical excellence brought him to Scott L. Eck, one of the creators of the New York hit play “Tony N’ Tina’s Wedding” and the creator of other improv hits such as “Instant Shakespeare,” “Murder DuJour” and “The Yes Factory.”  Mr. Eck subsequently invited celebrated New York actor and director Mark E. Lang to help lead the enterprise, and The Laughingstock Company was born.
